After Punjab Kings suffered a loss earlier in the day, the stage was perfectly set for Kolkata Knight Riders to take matter in their own hands and win the match against SRH to go one step closer in booking their spot for play-offs. As it happened, Eoin Morgan's side completed the job in some style where they absolutely outplayed the Orange Army in all departments.
It all started with a dominant display in the field by KKR as the trio of Tim Southee, Shivam Mavi and Varun Chakravarthy scalped 2 wickets each to restrict the opposition to a below-par total of 115/8 in 20 overs. Although the conditions were not easy for batting, it was never going to be a huge target for Kolkata as Shubman Gill (57 off 51), Nitish Rana (25 off 33) and Dinesh Karthik (18* off 12) made valuable contributions to get their side to a convincing victory.
Kolkata inch closer to play-offs
With the win, Kolkata stayed at 4th position in points table, with 12 points in 13 matches. They are just a victory away from progressing ahead and putting teams like Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals in danger of getting eliminated.
