In a recent interview, former England and Manchester United player Wayne Rooney said that Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane would be the ideal player to spearhead Manchester United’s attack. He also joked that Kane was like a prisoner at Tottenham and that the 29-year-old striker would find it difficult to leave, referencing the ongoing saga around Harry Kane’s future at the club.

After being asked about Manchester United’s ongoing search for a starting striker, Wayne Rooney named Harry Kane the ideal prospect. He also admitted that whether or not the England captain leaves Spurs this summer, is something that remains to be seen.

“I think him, as I said, Harry Kane would be the ideal player for me,” said Rooney while speaking with The Athletic’s David Ornstein. “It looks like he’s being held as a prisoner at Tottenham. It looks very difficult for him to get out of there.”

Tottenham running out of options as Kane enters final year of contract

Despite a rocky season for the Lilywhites, Kane scored 30 goals in the Premier League as his team failed to qualify for European competitions. Despite being one of the greatest English strikers in history, Harry Kane is yet to win a single trophy.  Hence it is speculated, Kane will seek newer pastures to add silverware to his career.

Therein lies the big problem that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has to sort out this summer. With only one year left on his current deal, Kane is likely to leave the club for a free next summer and join one of Europe’s elite teams. This would be a big loss to Spurs, as they would be letting one of the best strikers in Europe go without recouping any fees. This summer might be their last chance to get a transfer fee for the 29-year-old, though it is difficult to find the right buyer for a host of reasons.
