Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw is gearing up for the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka, starting July 13. He is hoping that a good performance in the series will put him in a strong position as one of the backup openers for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Earlier in the year, Prithvi Shaw was part of the Australia tour, where he got to play one Test. But he couldn't live up to the expectations and his technique was widely criticized by commentators and cricket experts. But a great Vijay Hazare performance, followed by a magnificent IPL run, the young Mumbai batsman received a lifeline when he was picked for the Sri Lanka tour. Team India will play three ODIs and as many T20Is against the island nation.

The 21-year-old has always been a prolific scorer in domestic cricket. After his poor outing in Australia, he bounced back in the domestic circuit, scoring tons of runs. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he broke record after record as he scored an astonishing 827 runs at an average of 165.40 for Mumbai. In eight innings, he scored four centuries including a double ton of 227. He carried his form into the Indian Premier League 2021 for the Delhi Capitals. As a result, he was rewarded with an India call up.

Would love to resume opening partnership with Dhawan: Prithvi

Prithvi Shaw is hoping to make the most of this opportunity. He wants to show the selectors that he can maintain this level of consistency at the international level as well.

“Yes, it is a good opportunity for me. I am happy for getting picked again. I’m really looking forward to the series,” Shaw said in a recent interview.

Shaw slammed 308 runs in 8 IPL 2021 matches at an average of 38.50 and a strike rate of 166.48. His opening partnership with Shikhar Dhawan was brilliant and the duo stitched two century stands and three half-century stands for Delhi Capitals. With stand-in captain Shikhar Dhawan by his side as the opening partner, Shaw would like to resume from where left in the IPL 2021. Shaw added that he has made plans for the forthcoming Lanka tour but won't reveal them yet.

“Yes, we had a really good partnership during IPL. We connected well, performed well together. If given a chance in Sri Lanka, I would love to resume the same partnership,” said Shaw.

“I do have plans for the Sri Lanka series. But I cannot reveal the plans just yet,” the youngster concluded.
