Social media influencer Sapna Gill has been granted bail by the Mumbai court on Monday after her advocate moved the bail application. Earlier, Gill along with three others, who were arrested allegedly for extortion, and criminal intimidation involving Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw, were sent to judicial custody for 14 days, after they were produced before a court on Monday.

Sapna’s advocate, Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh, told mid-day.com that a bail application was filed before the Andheri court and the court was pleased to hear the application today itself. “After extensive arguments Sapna Gill was granted bail on Rs. 10,000 personal bonds, the surety shall be furnished by tomorrow,” he informed.

Meanwhile, an investigating officer has claimed that Gill was arrested on Thursday while the remaining three alleged accused were nabbed on Saturday. While police sought three days’ custody for more interrogation in the matter, court denied the request, instead remanded them judicial custody.

In a report published in Indian Express, Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh, a lawyer representing Sapna Gill said that his arguments were that section 384 (extortion) is not applicable since there is no delivery of any valuables. “While another section 387 (putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion) – which was later added by the police – is not applicable as there is no mention of any death or life threats to Prithvi or anyone in the FIR,” he said.

The police complaint filed by Shaw’s friend Ashish Yadav alleged that he along with the Indian cricketer and a friend were having dinner at Hotel Sahara Star’s café on February 15, when Shaw was harassed by Sapna Gill and Thakur for selfies. However, Shaw refused the repetitive requests which triggered verbal spat between both the parties, followed by a physical assault. “Gill and Thakur are the main accused in the case, while the other two were part of the group that attacked Shaw and his friends,” added officer.
