The Kylian Mbappe transfer saga has been well documented after he was on the cusp of signing for Real Madrid in May 2022 instead he chose to sign a new deal with PSG. Since then many things have changed at PSG with Lionel Messi leaving and Neymar almost gone, Mbappe has told the PSG management that he won’t extend his current contract beyond 2024.
Mbappe signed a new two-year deal in May 2022, with the option to extend it for a further season and it expires in 2024. As reported by Le Equipe, Mbappe has sent an official letter to the club informing them that he won’t extend beyond 2024. If he is not sold this summer, the French giants could lose him for no money which could prove detrimental to the club.
According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, " Kylian Mbappé has informed PSG of his decision: he’ll NOT trigger the option to extend current contract until 2025, it means that deal would expire next June 2024 — as L’Équipé called. PSG position: NO plan to lose Kylian for free. Sign new deal now or he could be sold. "
The French champions are shocked by Mbappe's decision as it has forced them to either sell him this summer or let the World Cup winner walk for free in a year. The management still wants Mbappe to continue at the club but will have to cash in and not allow him to leave for free. Many top clubs are in line to bring the Ligue 1 winner in with Real Madrid at the forefront.
Romano added, " Crucial point on Kylian Mbappé story as mentioned before: Paris Saint-Germain do NOT consider an option to lose him as free agent in June 2024. New deal — or he will be made available on the market right now. "
Real Madrid President Perez was recently asked by a supporter in the street whether Mbappe could join them. He replied, "Yes, but not this year." According to many reports, Madrid had initially planned to bring him in for free. With Madrid already buying Jude Bellingham and bringing Fran Garcia and Brahim Diaz back, they may have to wait until 2024 before they can find this type of money to spend again and could therefore miss out on Mbappe.
