Nozomi Okuhara, the former World No. 1 Japanese badminton player, faced a hotel accommodation issue in the host city before the Odisha Masters 2023, sharing her ordeal on social media. The 28-year-old also revealed that she managed to arrange a hotel accommodation a few hours later thanks to help from her Indian counterpart PV Sindhu and a BAI official.

The ace shuttler from Japan, who won the women’s singles title at the Guwahati Masters 2023 badminton tournament recently, arrived in Odisha for the next BWF event, but things went wrong for her from that point onwards. She headed for the hotel in the host city, without a confirmed reservation, and upon reaching there, the hotel staff informed her that they didn't have a booking and the place was full for the day.
After that, Nozomi Okuhara talked on her Instagram stories about how PV Sindhu and an official of the Badminton Association of India (BAI) came to her rescue, thanking them for getting her hotel accommodation issue sorted out. The former world champion also spoke about receiving a water bottle of water from the hotel staff after being stuck for four hours, following which she travelled to a new hotel and checked in there shortly afterwards.
Earlier, during the Guwahati Masters 2023, Soong Joo Ven, the Malaysian men’s badminton player shared a video post on his official X account, talking about the unsanitary conditions in his bathroom. He wrote, “Imagine showering and brushing your teeth with this water here in India!!!”
