The ace India shuttler will not participate in the upcoming National Games as she is currently recovering from the ankle injury she sustained during Commonwealth Games 2022. The two-time Olympic medallist has confirmed her presence at the opening ceremony in Gujarat on September 29.

Sindhu confirmed the development on Saturday and stated that she feels 'sad' for not being able to participate in the tournament but will attend the opening ceremony of the event.

"It is unfortunate that I will not be competing in the Games due to my injury. Had I been fit; I would have definitely represented my state (Telangana)," Sindhu was quoted by PTI.

She further claimed that National Games is 'great opportunity' as she is looking forward to watching exciting badminton matches in the multi-sporting event.

"It is important that I take care of myself and focus on the challenges ahead in 2023 (Asia Games) and 2024 (Paris Olympics)," she added.

Former Volleyball international player and Sindhu's father, PV Ramana has also reportedly termed her daughter's absence from The Games 'unfortunate.'

"She was very keen to compete. Unfortunately, she cannot do so as he next review with the doctors and MRI will be in the first week of October,” he said.

Reportedly, Sindhu's father will be part of her rehabilitation program. "I know what it takes to make such a comeback. I will pass on my experience to Sindhu once she resumes training. She did not talk about the injury and used conservative treatment to continue playing in the Commonwealth Games," added Ramana.

Sindhu had earlier missed the World Championships event as well as she was advised to take rest by her medical team in Hyderabad.
