Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick will be the next manager of the Austria national team. This will be Rangnick’s first international job in his career. However, Rangnick will continue his consultancy role at the Old Trafford. Addressing the news, the 63-year-old expressed his excitement surrounding his new job.

He said, “I will take over as national team manager of Austria at the end of the season but will continue my consultancy with Manchester United. I’m really looking forward to playing my part in helping United become a real force again.”

“It is an honour for me to take on the role of [Austria] manager. The prospect of contesting the European Championships in Germany with a young team hungry for success fills me with great anticipation,” he added.

The President of the Austrian Football Association [ÖFB], Gerhard Milletich also talked about how Rangnick is a perfect man for the job. He said,  “We are very pleased that in Ralf Rangnick we have been able to recruit an outstanding expert in international football as team manager. We are all convinced that he is the ideal man and that his vision will advance the national team and the ÖFB.”

Manchester United under Rangnick played Chelsea in their previous game which ended in a 1-1 draw. The Red Devils had a sub-par first half but had an improved performance in the second. During the post-match press conference, Rangnick said, “I think in the second half we showed a good reaction, a good reaction from the team. Even more so when we conceded the goal after 60 minutes. It was good to have an early reply to that goal two minutes later - a great assist by Nemanja Matic and a fantastic finish by Cristiano.”
