Ranveer starrer 83 on Kapil Dev led India's World Cup win to release on June 4

Cricket in India changed forever post India's 1983 World Cup win which inspired a whole new generation of youngsters including legendary Sachin Tendulkar to take up the sport.

Ranveer Singh starrer 83 will release in cinema halls on June 4, 2021. The much-anticipated film revolves around India's historic 1983 World Cup win with Ranveer playing the role of the then captain Kapil Dev. Deepika Padukone will play the role of Kapil Dev's wife Romi Bhatia in the film. Notably, underdogs India had beaten reigning World Champion West Indies in the final at the iconic Lord's to lift their first-ever World Cup.

Cricket in India changed forever post that win which inspired a whole new generation of youngsters including legendary Sachin Tendulkar to take up the sport. Since then, India have gone on to win two more World Cups, in 2011 in the 50-over format and in 2007 in T20Is- which makes the nation the only one to have won the 60-overs, the 50-overs as well as the 20-overs World Cup.

Release was postponed earlier

The film was earlier set to hit the theatres in April 2020 but was postponed owing to the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic. There were reports suggesting that the makers might fix a Christmas 2021 release for the movie but with the government allowing 100 per cent seating capacity in cinema halls, the June release has been confirmed.

Apart from the leading stars, the film boasts of an ensemble cast, comprising of actors like Saqib Saleem, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Ammy Virk, Chirag Patil, Harrdy Sandhu, Jiiva, Sahil Khattar, Jatin Sarna, Pankaj Tripathi and Boman Irani, among others. The film has been directed by Kabir Khan and will be released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. It will also be available in 3D.
