The defending Champions League and La Liga winners Real Madrid has closed the 2021-22 financial year with a 13 million euros profit. The Spanish club addressed the news in a statement and talked about how the COVID-19 pandemic still has an impact on revenues. But the Los Blancos had managed to be profitable over the three financial years affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the 2021-22 season, the Blaugrana won a historic 14th Champions League trophy when they defeated Liverpool 1-0 in the final. Similarly, they also won the Spanish League with a 13-point margin over arch-rivals FC Barcelona and the Spanish Super Cup.
The club stated their cash balance as of 30 June 2022, barring the redevelopment of the stadium, was 425 million euros, while the loss in the pandemic since March 2020 had touched 400 million euros. The club statement said, “Operating income for the financial year 2021/22 has reached 722 million euros, an increase of 69 million euros (10%) year-on-year, as the economic effects of the pandemic are gradually subsiding.”
Talking about Real Madrid’s current season, the Los Blancos are the only team with a perfect record after defeating Mallorca 4-1. After Federico Valverde’s magical goal, the Blaugrana netted the remaining three goals throughout the second half. Reacting to the win, Carlo Ancelotti spoke to the media in the press room, where he praised the team in the absence of striker Karim Benzema.
He said, “We're doing well, very well. We've been able to cover for Benzema's absence. That was a big confidence boost given that we expect to have him back as soon as possible. The first three goals are what I want to take away from this game. They were of the highest quality.”
The former Everton manager then pointed out the Brazilian duo of Vinicious Jr. and Rodrygo who have been great. He said, “The best in my opinion was the most important one, Rodrygo and Vini Jr's link-up play, and from then on, things got easier. It was a difficult match due to many things: the heat, the fact that we conceded a goal from a set piece... We kept our cool and little by little we turned the match around and got the win.”
