It is to be noted that the American has not played a competitive tennis match since his loss to Nick Kyrgios at the 2022 Citi Open in August. The 25-year-old has been struggling to recover from the hip and ankle injuries which has also kept him out of the second half of 2022.

After his withdrawal, World No. 99 Zhang Zhizhen has replaced him in the main draw of Australian Open 2023. Notably, with Zhang’s inclusion the Chinese tennis player will compete in a main draw of the Asia-Pacific major for this first time in his career.
