Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant has reportedly rejected the offer to captain Delhi in Ranji Trophy ahead of their upcoming clash in the tournament against Saurashtra, starting on January 23 in Rajkot. It is understood that Ayush Badoni will be captaining Delhi in their next two Ranji Trophy games, and in his squad, he will not only have Rishabh Pant, but also former Indian captain Virat Kohli, subject to availability.
Notably, as per the report from Sportstar, the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has picked the squad for their next two Ranji Trophy games against Saurashtra, which will be played at the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) Stadium, followed by Railways at an away venue from January 30 onwards. In the Group E of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season, Delhi are currently in fourth place with 12 points to their name after winning and losing three matches each.
Virat Kohli's availability for Delhi's next two Ranji Trophy matches depends on his fitness
With the knockout spots in Ranji Trophy up for grabs, Delhi will be looking to bank on the experience of Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli, to help them get there at the conclusion of the group stage matches, defeating Saurashtra and Railways. But, it is important to note that Virat Kohli’s availability for the next Ranji Trophy game depends on his fitness after he received treatment for a neck issue in Sydney during the BGT Test series earlier this month from the Indian physio.
RevSportz journalist Subhayan Chakraborty, who broke the news about Virat Kohli’s neck issue, also revealed that the former Indian captain will inform DDCA President Rohan Jaitley about his availability for Delhi’s upcoming Ranji Trophy matches later this evening. Virat Kohli last played a match for Delhi over a decade ago before his international career flourished exponentially, and it led to him becoming one of the best players in the history of cricket.
