Preview

England Legends faced a crushing defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka Legends in their first game of the season. The Ian Bell-led team were bundled out for a mere 79 as Sanath Jayasuriya bowled a dream spell. Meanwhile, South Africa Legends got back to winning ways after losing to India Legends in their opening fixture and emerged victorious against New Zealand Legends in a low-scoring match. Now, the two teams will lock horns on Thursday to see who enjoys the challenge of playing on a new pitch.

Pitch Report

The Holkar Stadium pitch is generally a belter of a wicket. The short boundaries only add to the woes of the bowlers. So, a high-scoring game will be on the cards when the two teams will meet each other on 15 September.

Team Analysis

England Legends

England Legends had a forgettable outing against Sri Lanka Legends. The Ian Bell-led side looked clueless against the turning deliveries of Sanath Jayasuriya who claimed a four-fer. Captain Ian Bell was the highest scorer for his team with his 15 off 24 balls. Apart from Bell, only three more batters scored in double digits. The bowling was not that good either from England Legends. Barring, Stephen Parry, Dimitri Mascarenhas and Chris Tremlett, every bowler conceded more than 6 runs per over in such a low-scoring game. Now, as England ready themselves to take on a better-placed South Africa, they will look to make necessary amends.

South Africa Legends

South Africa Legends don’t need to make many amends as they put on two good performances in the two games they played. Although they lost against India Legends in their opening fixture, SA-L did stay in the hunt for a significant time. In the second game, they blew away New Zealand Legends as Johan Botha took four wickets. He will once again be the go-to man for his captain. Batters have also done a fair job for South Africa Legends. Andrew Puttick put on a show in the small chase as he scored 51* runs off 36 balls. Alviro Petersen also chipped in with a handy 29* to help his team cross the line. A similar sort of performance will be expected from South Africa Legends when they meet England Legends on Thursday.
