Sources close to SportsTiger have revealed that the Road Safety World Series 2022 will most likely be postponed for at least 3 months. The reasons haven't been disclosed yet. Earlier, the event was set to start on 4 June 2022 with the final scheduled on 3 July 2022. The tournament was to be hosted across four cities with three being Lucknow, Indore, and Jodhpur.
The Road Safety World Series is founded by the chief of RTO, Thane and the Konkan region Ravi Gaikwad in collaboration with the BCCI. The first edition of the tournament took place in March 2020 at venues in Mumbai and Pune. But with the Covid-19 pandemic, some games of the tournament were rescheduled to a later date.
The 2021 season of the Road Safety World Series included six teams. These teams were based on the various cricket playing nations and were called India Legends, Sri Lanka Legends, South Africa Legends, West Indies Legends, Bangladesh Legends, and England Legends.
This edition of the RSWS included 160 international retired cricketers in action, like Sachin Tendulkar, Jonty Rhodes, Carl Hooper, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Virender Sehwag, Sanath Jayasuriya, Yuvraj Singh and Australian speed merchant Brett Lee amongst other big stars. Dilshan was the Player of the Series of the inaugural edition as he ended the tournament as the highest scorer and wicket-taker.
Yusuf Pathan shines in India's title victory
The Indian Legends won the tournament as they took down the Tillakaratne Dilshan led Sri Lanka Legends in the final. India Legends put on a massive score of 181/4 in the first innings. The Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar scored 30(23) while Yuvraj Singh smashed 60 off 41 alongside Yusuf Pathan who also tormented the Lankans with his unbeaten at 62*off 36.
In the second innings, Sri Lankan Legends started their innings on a great note with a solid start by Sanath Jayasuriya as he scored 43 runs in 35 balls. Unfortunately, Tillakaratne Dilshan couldn’t continue his great run of form as he only scored 21 runs. Chinthaka Jayasinghe and Kaushalya Weeraratne tried to create a late flurry but could win the game. India restricted Sri Lanka at 167 with crucial spells from Yusuf Pathan and Irfan Pathan to lift the title.
