India captain Rohit Sharma is expecting his key pacers Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah to come out completely fit after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Both speedsters are currently busy in the league, serving their franchises. Bumrah is Rohit’s teammate in Mumbai Indians (MI) while Shami is rendering his service to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Rohit recently appeared on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast hosted by former Australia captain Michael Clarke and emphasised on the significance of both star speedsters in the team for the upcoming five-match Test assignment against England in June.
"I hope that these two guys, along with the others, finish the IPL without any concerns. If we have a fully fit team going to England, we'll have a great series there," said Rohit. Bumrah made a comeback in competitive cricket after three months with his appearance for MI against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL 2025 match played on April 13. In the last Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 played in Sydney, Bumrah’s back spasm returned which ruled him out of cricketing action.
India will aim to win Test series on English soil after 18 years
India, who haven’t won Test series in England after 2007, will be expected to play a fierce brand of cricket under Rohit Sharma. After 2007, England dominated India in 2011, 2014, and 2018 while playing at home but in 2021-22, things got better for the visitors as they succeeded in levelling the series by a margin of 2-2.
This year, India will be under immense pressure to win the series as they haven’t played quality cricket in the red-ball format in the last couple of series. In October 2024, they got whitewashed by New Zealand in a three-match Test series at home. Following that, they registered a 1-3 hammering at the hands of Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
