After India were bowled out on 466 in the second innings, England were in for a tricky final session on Day 4 at the Oval. Chasing a huge target of 368 runs, the home side were on the backfoot as India walked out in the field with momentum on their side. Virat Kohli and Co. looked pretty confident with their body language as they got set to attack the opposition.

However, there was something missing from the Indian side as India's star duo with the bat on Day 3 - Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara - were not on the field. The duo had notched up a crucial 153-run partnership for the second wicket which started India's fightback in the contest. While Pujara made a vital fifty for his side, Rohit went on to score his first overseas ton.

However, BCCI confirmed that the duo would not be coming on the field on Sunday due to their respective injuries that they suffered during India's second innings. Notably, the medical team is assessing both the cricketers with Mayank Agarwal and Suryakuamar Yadav being the substitute fielders for the visitors.

How did Pujara and Rohit get injured?

Cheteshwar Pujara had twisted his ankle while taking a run on Saturday. India's No. 3 was in lot of pain at that time but had decided to continue batting. The 33-year-old had a heavy taping on his ankle which is why he did not take the field on Day 4.

On the other hand, Rohit Sharma received a number of blows on his body during his outstanding century in the second innings. Photos of him getting bruises on his knees and thighs had gone viral on social media and it is being learned that the 34-year-old is still feeling the effects of those hits and had discomfort on his left knee.

India would be hoping for duo's speedy recovery

Considering the way Rohit and Pujara batted at the Oval, Indian fans would certainly be hoping that the duo can recover in time for the next match. With the all-important 5th Test set to begin on September 10, the duo would need a speedy recovery from their respective injuries to be fit and available for the final contest of series.
