Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who has been struggling for form and confidence at the international level, was a part of Mumbai’s recent defeat against Jammu & Kashmir in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 clash at the Bandra Kurla Complex. Shortly after, in a surprising turn of events, the Nagpur-born cricketer, received a heartfelt letter from a 15-year-old fan named Yathaarrt Chhabria, who called him his “favorite player” and “the greatest batsman of all time.”
Notably, over the past few months, Rohit Sharma lost his batting form completely at the Test arena, especially during the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series, which India lost 1-3 against Australia. The three matches in the BGT series that Rohit Sharma played, he scored just 31 runs at an average of 6.20, and it led to him voluntarily opting out of playing the fifth and final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
Rohit Sharma had a disappointing outing for Mumbai vs J&K in Ranji Trophy earlier this week
On his return to the Ranji Trophy scene for Mumbai in 10 years, Rohit Sharma scored three and 28 in both the innings against Jammu & Kashmir earlier this week in a contest which they eventually lost by five wickets. Following that, an elongated letter from the teenage fan of Rohit Sharma was all about the former pouring out his emotions for the Indian captain, calling his batting as “elegant” before stating that the “form is temporary, class is permanent.”
The fan letter from the 15-year-old Yathaarrt Chhabria to Rohit Shamra reads, “To my idol, my favourite player and the greatest batsman of all time. I know I will be representing millions of others as I say this, you are the reason I watch this beautiful sport and I am so lucky to be born in an era blessed to watch your elegant batting.”
“Form is temporary, class is permanent. It doesn't matter even if you haven't played a big innings recently, I can see that you are on the right track, and you will tear teams apart in the Champions Trophy. Your 3 sixes yesterday were amazing. I had to sit and watch the match while in maths class, but it was worth it.”
“Haters will hate, but your leadership is top notch. You are the best character on the field and you have succeeded as both, a player and captain in EVERY SINGLE FORMAT. I've followed you forever and watch every game just for you. Please just never retire, I can't imagine how I'd turn on the TV and feel if i don't see you walking out to open the innings.”
“I am a 15-year-old well-spoken and passionate boy. My dream is to be a sports analyst and I have even completed an internship in association with Rajasthan Royals. If you could help me out in any way, please do let me know.”
“I love you, Rohit and I know you will return to the best of your abilities very, very soon,” the fan letter concludes.
