During the first ODI of the three-match series against England, the Indian captain Rohit Sharma was dismissed for two runs in seven balls on the bowling of pacer Saqib Mahmood, continuing his poor run in international cricket for the past few months. Moments after Rohit Sharma went into the pavilion for a low score, the social media platform X slammed the Indian captain, with one fan asking him to take retirement.
In pursuit of the 249-run target, Rohit Sharma walked out to the middle at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Stadium in Nagpur alongside debutant Yashasvi Jasiwal. He got off the mark with a couple on the fifth ball of his innings against Saqib Mahmood, but just a couple of balls later, when he tried to whip an inswinger from him towards the mid-wicket region, he spooned it in the air only for Liam Livingstone to take the catch.
Over the past few months, Rohit Sharma has not only struggled for form and rhythm with the bat, but his timing and placement of strokes isn’t working much as well. After failing miserably in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) down under in December against Australia, his performance on returning to Ranji Trophy against Jammu & Kashmir in the Mumbai cricket team wasn’t quite inspiring either.
