Days after India’s white-ball tour of Bangladesh was rescheduled for September 2026, there were reports of Sri Lanka hosting India in that window for a limited-overs series. While there were conversation between the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for a white-ball series consisting of three ODIs and as many T20Is, set to be held next month, hopes for the tour looks bleak at the moment.
It is to be noted that India was scheduled to tour Bangladesh for three ODIs and T20Is in August, but the tour was pushed back due to ongoing political situation in the neighbouring nation. While India’s tour was deferred, the Lanka Premier League, which was set to be held in July-August, was also postponed, leaving the Lankan side to host India.
BCCI rejects proposal of Sri Lanka tour: Reports
But, as per the latest developments, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has declined the SLC’s proposal to host white-ball series. As per a report in SportsTak, a source close to the development confirmed stating, “We will decide about the series but it looks unlikely.”
With the BCCI mulling to decline this series proposal, the return of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma remains further delayed. The two cricketers, who now play only the 50-over format, having retired from T20Is after the T20 World Cup 2024 title triumph, followed by putting curtains to their Test career in May 2025. Seeing the decision by BCCI, the return of Rohit and Kohli now remains delayed until the Australia series, which is scheduled to be held in October.
