Indian Premier League franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on January 21 informed that its social media account on Twitter was hacked by an anonymous group. Notably, RCB’s official Twitter handle was renamed as ‘Bored Ape Yacht Club’ and few NFT related content was posted on it by the hacked users.

The new Twitter bio of the RCB’s Twitter handle reads, "To become a member, buy a Bored Ape or Mutant Ape on OpenSea. Created by @yugalabs."

RCB is one of the most popular IPL franchises and has a massive following on social media channels. They have around 6.4 million followers on the microblogging site.

In its official statement, RCB informed that its Twitter handle was compromised around 4 AM on January 21 and revealed that it lost the access of the account. "The unfortunate incident happened beyond our control despite taking all security measures recommended by Twitter. We do not endorse or support any of Tweets/Retweets that happened from our handle today and we regret the inconvenience caused. we are working with the Twitter support team to resolve this at the earliest," read RCB's statement.

Notably, this is not the first time that RCB has experienced such hacking as in September 2021, its Twitter account was hacked but soon after the account was restored. Talking about the franchise, RCB acquired the services of players like England’s Will Jacks (INR 3.2 Crore), Reece Topley (INR 1.9 Crore) and roped in five uncapped Indian players in Rajan Kumar, Avinash Singh, Himanshu Sharma, Sonu Yadav, and Manoj Bhandage.

Last year, RCB featured in the playoffs following a decent season in the league phase, however, they could not proceed to the final as they lost to Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2.
