RPSG Group, which owns Lucknow franchise in Indian Premier League, has promoted former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir as a global mentor for their cricketing operations. The RPSG Group made its debut in IPL 2022 with Lucknow Super Giants, and went global by acquiring Durban's Super Giants in upcoming South Africa T20 League.

Gautam Gambhir is regarded as one of the sharpest cricketing minds in the world and was part of the India's T20 World Cup winning squad in 2007 and 50-over World Cup winning squad in 2011. He made a significant contribution in the both the finals of the ICC tournament. The batter has also led Kolkata Knight Riders to the title triumph twice in 2012 and 2014, and captained Delhi franchise twice as well.

Cricketer-turned-politician expressed delight over the promotion as he claimed that designations don't play much role and at best, they only facilitate a process to make a team win. "As a Global mentor of Super Giants, I look forward to some added responsibilities. My intensity and passion to win has just got international wings. It will be a proud moment to see the Super Giants family make an impact globally. I express my gratitude towards the Super Giants family for showing faith in me. Guess it’s time for some more sleepless nights," Gambhir said.

Speaking of Durban’s Super Giants, the franchise roped in the likes of Quinton de Kock, Jason Holder, Kyle Mayers, Reece Topley and uncapped Prenelan Subrayen ahead of player’s auction. The franchise built a formidable squad in the auction by securing the services of players like Dwaine Pretorius, Heinrich Klaasen, Keemo Paul, Keshav Maharaj, Kyle Abbot and others.

Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants had a terrific debut in IPL 2022 as the franchised qualified for the playoffs and finished third in the points table. KL Rahul-led franchise won nine games out of 14 matches, only to knock out from the competition after losing the Eliminator by 14 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
