The Spanish national team suffered a historic upset loss against underdogs Morocco in their Round of 16 fixture at the FIFA World Cup 2022. The La Roja settled for a 0-0 draw in the extended extra time and then failed to score in the penalty shootout suffering a 3-0 loss. After the game, the Spanish team was heavily criticised and trolled by the netizens.
Adding to the memes, the Irish airline Ryanair also jumped on the bandwagon. They shared a picture of the Spanish team on top of a Ryanair flight and captioned the post, “You’ve heard of elf on the shelf, now get ready for…”
Netizens also were quick to react on this tweet and share hilarious messages calling out Spain’s disappointing performance.
