One of India's finest pace bowlers, S. Sreesanth has announced retirement from Indian domestic cricket on Wednesday. He organized an Instagram live session to confirm the news as he expressed his gratitude to everyone for supporting him throughout his career.

The Kerala-born cricketers admitted that it was an emotional and hard day for him to hang up his boots, but he felt it was the right time for him. He also thanked Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Irfan Pathan and all other former players who played a key role in his journey.

The 39-year-old posted an emotional note on Twitter to make the revelation. "For the next generation of cricketers. I have chosen to end my first class cricket career. This decision is mine alone, and although I know this will not bring me happiness, it is the right and honorable action to take at this time in my life. I've cherished every moment," he tweeted.

Sreesanth played 90 matches for India across all formats

The right-arm fast-bowler played 27 Tests, 53 ODIs and 10 T20Is for India, during which he took a total of 169 international wickets. After being banned from cricket in 2013, Sreesanth waited for 9 years to make his comeback in domestic cricket and got quite emotional after taking his first Ranji wicket on his incredible return to red-ball cricket.

However, he suffered an injury later on which could also have been one of the reasons behind his decision to retire from Indian domestic cricket. But considering his recent performances, one would feel that the pacer might still have some cricket left in him and he could be seen in tournaments like Road Safety World Series, Legends League Cricket etc. where retired cricketers get a chance to get on the field once again.
