Indian cricket team put an end to their South Africa jinx as they recorded a seven-wicket win in the second Test on January 4, 2024. The Indian batting star Shreyas Iyer finished the match with a boundary to help his side record their first-ever Test win at Newlands in Capetown. In the last leg of the multi-format series tour, the Proteas hosted India in the second and final Test match that kicked off on January 3, 2024. Dean Elgar, who played his last international game led his side after Temba Bavuma got ruled out due to an injury. 

Opting to bat first, the hosts were bundled out at 55 runs within 24 overs in the first innings, owing to a brilliant bowling attack by Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mukesh Kumar. While Siraj picked a brilliant six-wicket haul, Bumrah and Kumar recorded two successes each. In the second inning, the visitors got bundled out at 153 runs and got an early lead of 98 runs. 

While the entire clash was thrilling, Rohit Sharma and Co. scripted an embarrassing record as six players got dismissed on a duck. India lost KL Rahul at 153 runs, and following his wicket, no Indian batter could manage to add even one run to the overall total, before bundling out at 153 within 35 overs. Apart from that, a staggering 23 wickets fell on the opening day’s action, which is a record most in South Africa.

On Day 2 of the game, South Africa continued their batting and put an overall total of 176 runs within 37 overs. The hosts gained a lead of 78 runs, which the guests chased seamlessly in 12 overs, marking their win in the shortest match in the history of Test cricket.
