Stuart Broad entered the history books on Saturday when he bowled on Day 2 of the England vs India 5th Test. The English pacer conceded 35 runs in an over and surpassed South Africa’s Robin Pietersen in bowling the most expensive over in Test cricket history. Notably, Broad conceded 35 runs in an over while bowling to India’s Jasprit Bumrah.
As the 19-year-old record held by Robin Peterson was finally broken on Saturday, the former Proteas cricketer was more than elated. Although he wrote on Twitter that he feels sad that the record held by him for so long was broken, Peterson looked in quite a mood. He took a cheeky dig at Broad through his tweet.
“Sad to lose my record today ? oh well, records are made to be broken I guess. Onto the next one,” wrote Robin Peterson on Twitter. Notably, Peterson bowled a 28-run over against West Indies in 2003 when Brian Lara had taken the left-arm spinner to the cleaners.
Broad can’t stop the run-flow
Coming to the over bowled by the England pacer, it seemed Broad had no control over his line and lengths as he kept on bowling either short or full balls. On the first delivery, the pacer went for a bouncer which was pulled away by Bumrah. But with little timing on the shot, the ball went towards Crawley who could not hold onto the catch and it raced to the boundary.
On the second ball, Broad put more effort on the bouncer but could only see it going over the wicketkeeper’s head for another boundary. On the next one, Broad tried another bouncer but it flew to the fine-leg boundary for a six off Bumrah’s outside edge.
With the bouncer ploy not working, Broad went for a yorker on the next ball but ended up bowling a full-toss which was easily dispatched for another boundary. This shot was followed by a four, a six, and a single to make it a 35-run over.
