The Preity Zinta co-owned Punjab Kings travelled to Kolkata to face the Shah Rukh Khan co-owned Kolkata Knight Riders in match 42 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. After being invited to bat first from Sam Curran-led PBKS, the Shreyas Iyer-led side posted 261/6 in the 20 overs, courtesy a 37-ball 75 from Phil Salt and a 32-ball 71 from all-rounder Sunil Narine.
However, in pursuit to the 262-run target, Jonny Bairstow’s unbeaten 108-run knock helped Punjab King register highest successful run-chase in IPL history. While Prabhsimran Singh played a 20-ball 54-run cameo, Shashank Singh’s unbeaten 68-run knock also proved to be vital in PBKS’ win.
With the visitors chasing the highest total in T20 history and registering an eight-wicket win over KKR, a 10-year-old tweet by Bollywood celebrity Salman Khan went viral. The four-word tweet which the celebrity posted on May 28, 2014 read, “Zinta’s team won kya?” Here the Punjab-based franchise took note of it and was quick to respond with a message reading, “Match bhi jeete aur dil bhi!”
It is to be noted that Salman Khan had shared this post after KKR won the IPL 2014 Qualifier 1 against PBKS.
Shikhar Dhawan to return for PBKS in match against CSK
The Punjab Kings, who have been without their regular skipper in Shikhar Dhawan in the last few matches of IPL 2024, will likely see his return in their next match. The PBKS will travel to Chennai to play against the defending champions at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 1.
Speaking on Dhawan’s return, PBKS bowling coach Sunil Joshi said, “Shikhar Dhawan was injured on the ground, we miss his batting services. He I on the road to recovery. We saw him batting at the nets. Hopefully, he is in the recovery process and will be fit for the next game,” Joshi said.
