India wicketkeeper batter Sanju Samson is likely to be dropped from the Asia Cup 2023 squad following his consistently poor performances. Samson was a part of the Indian squad for the ODI and T20I series against West Indies, where he failed to make a mark. The Kerala-born might face repercussions of the same by being dropped from the Asia Cup 2023 squad, which is likely to be announced on August 20.
According to reports by the Times of India, right-arm pacer Prasidh Krishna is likely to be a part of the squad. TOI quoted a source as saying, “Right now, the selectors are likely to only pick the Asia Cup. The World Cup will mostly be picked later.”
The source added, "Prasidh can generate pace and bounce and will give a new dimension to our pace attack. Before they pick the team for the Asia Cup, it will be nice if the selectors get to watch both Bumrah and Prasidh bowl in the opening T20I against Ireland on August 18.”
In the recently-concluded series against the Caribbeans, Samson managed to score only 32 runs in the three T20Is. In two ODIs, the right-handed batter pulled 51 and nine runs. The Rajasthan Royals skipper has played 13 ODI games for India, where he scored 390 runs. However, his recent form has been a major concern for the side.
