Six-time champion Serena Williams commenced her US Open 2022 campaign with a victory in the first round match over Danka Kovinic of Montenegro 6-3, 6-3 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium on Monday. Serena donned a custom diamond-encrusted Nike sneaker during the match.

The 22-time Grand Slam winner slayed in the first round not only with her dominant performance but also with her style statement that includes her custom NikeCourt Flare 2 sneakers and six-layered skirt.

Serena's sneakers, which are  designed by Williams with a “hands-on approach”,  were reportedly encrusted with 400 diamonds and her initials on the medial side. " Inspired by graceful competition dresses worn by figure skaters, the embellished bodice and the skirt place Serena in the spotlight and allow her freedom of movement," Nike stated.

“400 hand-set diamonds in black ceramic created in collaboration with Serena Williams Jewelry,” reported People magazine.

Talking about her outfit, Serena wore a six-layered skirt, which represent her six titles at Flushing Meadows, paired with a matching jacket. Her daughter, Olympia was also seen in the stands watching her US Open 2022 match, wearing the matching outfit as her mother's.

Meanwhile, Serena will partner with her sister Venus Williams for women's doubles match against Lucie Hradecka and Linda Nosková of Czech Republic on Wednesday while  she is set to face World No 2 Anett Kontaveit of Estonia in the second round of the women's singles US Open on the same day.
