The seventh edition of the Women’s Big Bash League is all set to commence from 14 October and the signings are underway. Indian players are also getting some good deals and the latest on the list is 17-year-old Shafali Verma and Radha Yadav. Both the players have signed a deal with the WBBL franchise Sydney Sixers for the upcoming edition of the league.
Shafali Verma, who had a pretty good outing in The Hundred impressed Sydney Sixers’ coach Ben Sawyer, who was with Shafali at Birmingham Phoenix. Sawyer was all praise for the young batter and said he found her always striving to learn.
"Shafali is very impressive. She’s such a talent and she’s fearless. She hits to different areas of the field and plays shots that are different to the other three girls in that top four. The experience I had with her in Birmingham was that she wants to learn, she wants to get better and she wants to grow as a player and a person," Sawyer said.
Meanwhile, Shafali Verma was also excited about the new role she will have to play for the Sixers. Verma said that she looks at this as an opportunity to make some good friends and have fun.
“This is a very good opportunity for me and my goal is to just enjoy myself, to make some new friends, and have fun. I want to play WBBL and back myself and just believe in myself,” said Verma.
Radha brings skillset, we never had at Sixers: Sawyer
Apart from Verma, left-arm orthodox spinner Radha Yadav, who is currently ranked at no. 11 in ICC T20 Bowler Rankings, will also don the Sydney Sixers jersey. Ben Sawyers seemed excited to rope in Radha Yadav and reckoned she will bring something that Sixers were always looking for.
“Radha brings a skill set that we have never had at the Sixers and that’s very exciting. I think a left-arm ortho bowler is so important in the WBBL and having one who is world-class is such a great opportunity for this team. She has also batted in the middle of the order for India so she is handy with the bat too," reckoned Sawyer.
