Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter Shimron Hetmyer has been fined for the IPL Code of Conduct breach during their match against the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2024   Qualifier 2 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The West Indies batter was fined for hitting the stumps with his bat after he was dismissed at the score of four off 10 deliveries during the do-or-die fixture on Friday, May 24.

Batting at four, Shimron Hetmyer fell a victim of Abhishek Sharma. On the fourth delivery of the 14th over, Hetmyer went on the back foot to punch the ball but missed it completely, getting bowled. He then knocked over the off-stump with his bat in frustration, eventually getting noticed by the umpires and thus getting penalised for his actions.

“Shimron Hetmyer of the Rajasthan Royals has been fined 10 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the Qualifier 2 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against SunRisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on May 24,” read the statement from the IPL.  

The West Indian has been fined for Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with “Abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match.” “Hetmyer committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the statement further read. 

SunRisers Hyderabad to face Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024 Final on Sunday

The Pat Cummins-led SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) came out on top after they beat the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2024 Qualifier 2 in Chennai. After being put to bat first by the Royals, SRH posted 175/9 in the 20 overs. During the run chase while Yashasvi Jaiswal looked in good touch, he could take his team ahead. With brilliant bowling spells from SRH bowlers, especially Shahbaz Ahmed and Abhishek Sharma, the side prevailed, registering a 36-run win.

The Hyderabad-based franchise will next take on the in-form Kolkata Knight Riders in the summit clash, set to be held on Sunday, May 26 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
