The ongoing edition of Dhaka Premier League in Bangladesh has got attention across the cricket world for all the wrong reasons. After Shakib Al Hasan's controversial fight with the umpires during a match, another shocking incident from the league has now come into the limelight. Unfortunately for Bangladesh cricket, it's another international player who was in the thick of things.

What actually happened?

The incident happened during a match between Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited and Old DOHS Sports Club on Wednesday. Another team Legends of Rupganj were also at the venue and were watching the match. It is then all-rounder Sabbir Rahman, who was sitting outside reportedly threw a brick at Sheikh Jamal's spinner Elias Sunny while he was fielding at deep square leg.

While the reason behind the same is still now known, Rahman allegedly also hurled racist slurs at Elias in a shocking sequence of events. It is not the first time that Rahman has been involved in some controversy as he has a history of violent behaviour. While he had reportedly slapped a cleaner last year, he has also come under scrutiny for social media abuse and even assaulting a fan in domestic cricket.

Complaint filed against Rahman

Sheikh Jamal have now lodged a complaint against Rahman and have written a letter to Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) seeking punishment for the player for his act. In the letter, they stated, “With heavy disappointment, we inform you that, on June 16, 2021, during a match between Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited and Old DOHS Sports Club at the BKSP-3, Legends of Rupganj player Sabbir Rahman threw a brick at Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited player Elias Sunny outside from the ground without any reason.”

It was also mentioned that Rahman used abusive language in a racist manner and said, “Oi black, black, Elias” while referring to Elias Sunny. They added that such behaviour is not only indecent but also punishable and requested the committee to take disciplinary action against Sabbir Rahman.
