India kicked off the World Test Championship Cycle 2025 campaign by taking down their Caribbean rivals in the first Test match at Windsor Park in Dominica. The Asian giants managed to clinch victory by a huge margin of one inning and 141 runs. Though it was the entire squad’s effort that led team to their victory in the series opener, young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal emerged as star of the game and won the Player of the Match Award. Jaiswal was awarded a USD 500 cash prize for his brilliant knock in his first match. While the fellow countrymen lauded young Jaiswal for his heroics, the prize money generated a range of opinions on Twitter.

Jaiswal was handed his Test cap in the first West Indies vs India game, where he opened India innings with skipper Rohit Sharma. The 21-year-old announced his arrival in international cricket by scoring an impressive 171 runs and became the third Indian opener to score a ton in his debut game after Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw. Not only this, but the Rajasthan Royals star also became the third Indian after Dhawan and Rohit Sharma to cross the 150-mark on Test debut.

For his heroic knock, Jaiswal was awarded with Player of the Match Award and was given a USD 500 cash prize. The amount sparked mixed reactions on Twitter and while some fans expressed their dissatisfaction, others said that the amount suggested financial struggles of the West Indies board.
