Although the first Test of the upcoming England-India Test series is five weeks away, it is not a good news coming in from the United Kingdom. It is being reported that Shubman Gill is virtually ruled out of the opening Test match and is even at a risk of missing all the five Test matches against England.

Reports coming in from England suggest that the 21-year-old is carrying some serious internal injury that is set to keep him away from action in recent times. While the exact nature of his injury is not yet known, it is certain that it will take some time to heal and thus will keep him out of action for a long time.

Mayank Agarwal or KL Rahul likely to open with Rohit

Furthermore, it is being learned that the opener will continue to be with the touring Indian side. It is also being expected that he may regain fitness sometime later in the middle of a long series which will end on September 14. A report carried by Cricbuzz claims that Shubman has in fact been carrying this injury for a long time but it has been aggravated recently.

The injury to Gill, who was likely to be management’s first-choice opener along with Rohit Sharma, comes as a major setback. The right-handed batter looked good especially in the first innings and even earned appreciation from former England captain Nasser Hussain who observed that it didn’t look like Shubman was playing his first Test in England. His injury would now force the Kohli led side to either go to Mayank Agarwal or KL Rahul as an opener.
