After the white-ball series England, Rohit Sharma-led Team India will travel to Dubai for the highly-anticipated ICC Men’s Champions Trophy, set to get underway from February 19 in Pakistan. While majority of matches will be held across Pakistan, India will play all its matches in Dubai after they cited security concerns over traveling to Pakistan.
With the marquee tournament less than 15 days away, several players participation still hangs in balance. Among many is pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who is racing against time to get fit for the ICC event. Although, the Ahmedabad-born player has been named in the squad, he is currently at the National cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for scans.
Not aware about Bumrah’s scans: Sitanshu Kotak shares key update ahead of second ODI
Bumrah suffered back spasms a month ago during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 in Australia. However, he was given time to “off-load”, he reported at the NCA earlier this month and his reports of scans are set to come out soon. With the International Cricket Council (ICC) setting February 12 as the deadline date for all eight teams to submit their final squads, a decision on Bumrah’s participation will be out soon on the basis of his medical report.
But recently, on the eve of the second ODI against England, Team India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak was asked about Bumrah to which he quickly replied, "Not aware about Bumrah's scans, so that will be obvious our doctor, or physio will know about that." It is to be noted that Bumrah was last seen taking the field in the Sydney Test, however he walked off the field during Australia’s first innings after suffering back spasms.
