Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced a cash reward of USD 100,000 for its national team after their T20I series win over India. The board on Friday lauded the team as it won the series 2-1 against India. SLC added that the win would augur well for Dasun Shanaka's men.

The Executive Committee of Sri Lanka cricket lauded the effort of the players,  coaches, and the support staff for bringing this much-needed victory, which it believes will augur well for the national team going forward. Hence, in order to recognise this victory the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka cricket decided to award a sum of USD 100,000 for the national team,” read the official statement from SLC.

Sri Lanka break losing streak against India

Sri Lanka, after losing the ODI series 1-2 to India, came back stronger in the T20I series to end a long-lasting drought. Lanka registered their first bilateral series win over India in over 13 years. They last won a bilateral series against India in 2008 when they had defeated India 2-1 in a three-match Test series at home. Also, it was Sri Lanka's first bilateral T20I series win over India in eight attempts.

Talking about the recent series, the Lankans lost the first match by 38 runs but they came back good in the second game and went on to win the match by 4 wickets. Notably, India had to field a 'third string' side against the hosts in the second and third T20I due to COVID burst in their camp. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, grabbed the opportunity with both the hands. Wanindu Hasaranga shone for the hosts in the whole series as he scalped 7 wickets from the three fixtures and hence was chosen the Player of the Series.
