After losing four back-to-back games, New Zealand roared back with a dominant bowling effort against Sri Lanka in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, the Blackcaps were on song from ball one as Tim Southee dismissed the in-form opener Pathum Nissanka at the end of the second over.

Though Kusal Perera continued smashing from one end, but the threatening duo of Southee and Trent Boult found their mojo back and ran through the Lankan top-order. Especially, Boult as he picked up three wickets in the powerplay and doubled his tally of wickets in the first ten overs in this tournament.
After this poor start, the Lankan middle order also suffered a massive collapse where Lockie Ferguson and Mitchell Santer combined to pick up four wickets. This near-perfect bowling performance reduced Sri Lanka to 150-9 which promoted many reactions on social media. Fans from around the world chimed in as Pakistan's hopes for the semi-finals are nearly done as the Kiwis seem the favourites to win this game.
