Sofiane Boufal denies claims of 'enjoyed Ronaldo cry’ after Morroco’s win over Portugal

Morocco defeated Portugal 1-0 in the FIFA World Cup 2022 quarter-final and stood fourth after losing to Croatia in the third-place matchup.

The FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar was full of entertainment and disappointments, one big upset was Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal losing to Morocco. After the Atlas Lions won the quarter-final, forward Sofiane Boufal rumoured to have disrespected the Portuguese legend, Cristiano Ronaldo, however, the Al-Rayyan forward has recently denounced all the reports.

Morocco forward  Sofiane Boufal has taken to Instagram to deny the reports which said that he disrespected the five-time Ballon d’Or winner in his recent interview with the Qatari channel Alkass. In the reports and the viral quotes where it was mentioned that the Al Rayyan forward said that he enjoyed seeing Ronaldo cry after the loss and that the forward prefers Messi over him.

The ex-Southampton player posted an Instagram story to denounce the reports and quotes as fake with a cross emoji while sharing a post that mentioned the popular quote along with photos of CR7 and Boufal from the popular Instagram handle Pubitysport. In the following story, he posted a snippet from the interview and captioned it as ‘Thank you for not getting my words twisted!’

Morroco beat Portugal in the World Cup quarter-final and became the first African nation to reach a World Cup Semifinal. However, they went on to lose in the semifinals against France and then the third-place match against Croatia.

The forward is currently playing in the Stars League in Qatar's first tier for Al Rayyan FC and is the most valuable player in the league. He was back in action for the 2-2 draw against Al Sailiya and will face Al Duhail in the midweek.
