India is celebrating Teacher’s Day on Monday. Everyone including sports personalities is paying tribute to their teachers. Former India captain and current Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly also posted a video message on his social media handles wherein he talked about his teachers in life and paid tribute to them.

The 50-year-old said that there have been many teachers in his life but the one who has stayed throughout and was his ‘failure’. Ganguly remembered how miserably he failed in his debut game which he played in 1992 and also said that it felt like the end of the road for him. However, the former captain then recalled how he redeemed himself when he got a chance to represent India again in 1996.

Ganguly scored his maiden ton at Lord’s and never looked back since then. He was appointed the captain of India in 2000 and India did remarkably well under their new captain. Ganguly led India to the final of the 2003 World Cup but they lost to the mighty Aussies. In the video, Dada recalled this loss to Australia and termed it as his second major failure. He kept on with his stories and also recalled his score of 239 against Pakistan.

While Ganguly rekindled a lot of memories for his fans, his mention of Greg Chappell as one of his favourite coaches was a talking point from the video. Ganguly mentioned a few names right at the beginning of the video and Chappell’s name was also there. “To all my coaches, right from Debo Mitra to John Wright, my favourite one, to Greg and Gary Kirsten, today I want to wish a Happy Teacher’s Day to someone who changed my life forever,” says Ganguly.

Notably, Sourav Ganguly and Greg Chappell did not share that great camaraderie as the former was removed from India’s captaincy after the Australian took over. Ganguly was also dropped from Tests and ODIs in 2005.
