The IPL 2025 clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC), held on May 5 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, ended in disappointment for both teams as persistent rain forced the match to be abandoned after the first innings. SRH’s hopes of staying in playoff contention were dashed by the no-result, while DC walked away with a solitary point, keeping their qualification chances barely alive.

Delhi Capitals, after being sent in to bat first by SRH captain Pat Cummins, managed to score 133/7 in 20 overs. The innings was anchored by Tristan Stubbs, who remained unbeaten on 41 from 36 deliveries, showing composure on a sluggish pitch. While the top order faltered, impact player Ashutosh Sharma added another valuable 41 runs off 26 deliveries. SRH’s bowlers maintained control throughout, with Jaydev Unadkar and Pat Cummins bowling economically, with the latter picking up 3 wickets during the powerplay itself. Unadkat, Harshal Patel and Eshan Malinga each picked up 1 wicket as well.

DC remain in fifth place in points table after getting shared point due to rain

Despite DC’s modest total, SRH never got a chance to chase. Rain began falling during the innings break and persisted long enough to make the outfield unplayable. Match officials waited for conditions to improve, but the wet ground made resumption impossible, resulting in the match being officially called off.

This no-result was a significant blow for Sunrisers Hyderabad, who are now mathematically out of playoff contention. With only a few games left in the league stage, the result leaves them playing for pride. For Delhi Capitals, while the single point adds to their tally, it wasn’t the outcome they would have wanted in a must-win situation. They now face added pressure in their remaining fixtures to secure a playoff berth.
