After the controversial incident in England where three Sri Lankan players - Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella and Danushka Gunathilaka - were found guilty of breaching bio-bubble protocols, Sri Lanka Cricket was quick to act as it suspended the trio immediately and called them back to the island nation. While the three players will miss the ODI series against Eoin Morgan's side, it has also been reported that they are set to miss the upcoming series against India as well. Considering the current developments on the issue, it looks like that the case is not shutting down anytime soon.
SLC will announce the final verdict next month
The board has made it very clear that they are absolutely disappointed with the behaviour of the experienced trio and could take some strict actions against them. Although Sri Lankan players have been travelling in business class over the last 25 years, the three players in this case were reportedly flown from UK to Sri Lanka in economy class and are set to arrive on Tuesday, June 29.
Sri Lanka's sports minister MR Namal Rajapaksa has also demanded that poor discipline should not be tolerated. He asked the national cricket board to take strict action against players for violating the rules.
Notably, the trio will undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine in Katunayake before facing a disciplinary hearing with the board in Colombo. Reflecting on the possibility of further punishment, an SLC official reportedly claimed that they could face a ban which could range anywhere between 3 months to 1 year.
