Team USA’s skateboarder, Nyjah Huston was in news after showing concerns on the quality of the medal he received at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The American skateboarder who took to social media to share an unfortunate state of his bronze medal, which he received at the recently concluded Summer Games, took social media by storm with the organisers now speaking up on it.
Huston, who made his Olympic debut and is known for impressive record of 12 medals which he received in the X Games and the World Championships, had his expectations turn into sorrow when his medal began to wear out. In a video he shared on Instagram, he revealed the coating chipping off in just days’ time.
"All right, so these Olympic medals look great when they are brand new. But after letting it sit on my skin with some sweat for a little bit and then letting my friends wear it over the weekend, they are apparently not as high quality as you would think," he said. "It's looking rough. Even the front is starting to chip off a little. Olympic medals, you gotta maybe step up the quality a little bit," he further added.

Paris 2024 organisers respond on Nyjah’s medal concerns
Days after the American shared the video post on his Instagram, the Paris Olympics 2024 organisers have finally responded in the matter and have agreed to replace the medal. "The medals are the most coveted objects of the Games and the most precious for the athletes. Damaged medals will be systematically replaced by the Monnaie de Paris and engraved in an identical way to the originals," a spokesperson stated.
While the manufacturer of the medal, La Monnaie de Paris are looking into what resulted in such weathering, it remains that Huston is not the only one who faced it. British diver, Yasmin Harper also shared that her bronze medal had experienced a similar deterioration.
