The warm-up event to the much-awaited Grand Slam event Wimbledon 2023, the Halle Open is underway in Germany. The grass-court event, which is also the part of ATP Tour 500 series, kick started on June 19 at the OWL Arena, Halle, with the final set to be played on June 25, 2023.

The 30 th edition saw second seeded Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas, along with World No. 3 Daniil Medvedev progress into the next round after their respective wins. While the World No. 5 ranked player prevailed over his French opponent Gregoire Barrere 6-7 (6), 6-4, 7-6 (3) in a hard-fought battle of two hours, 22 minutes; the Russian seeded beat American qualifier Marcos Giron 6-4, 6-3.
Canadian tennis star Denis Shapolav also progressed into the second round after beating South Africa’s Lloyd Harris 7-6 (1), 6-4. Nicolas Jarry of Chile, Serbia’s L. Dere, USA’s B. Nakashima were the other players to enter Round of 16 after their respective wins in the Round of 32.
Nick Kyrgios withdraws from Halle Open
In a big update, Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios pulled out of the Halle Open due to injury. The 28-year-old who made a comeback in the Stuttgart Open last week, pulled out of the warm-up event to Wimbledon on June 19, Monday after persistent knee issue.
