British TV personality Piers Morgan has slammed USWNT star Megan Rapinoe after the USA was eliminated from the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The Rapinoe-led side lost to a resilient Swedish side in the Round of 16, the team’s worst finish in World Cup history, in a penalty shootout with a 5-4 margin.

The loss was bitter for the 2019 Ballon d’Or winner as she missed the final American penalty which sailed over the crossbar and allowed Sweden to progress to the quarterfinals. Hence after the loss, Piers Morgan wrote a long article in the New York Post calling out Rapinoe for being ‘Supremely arrogant’, ‘annoyingly self-aggrandizing’, and focusing all on money.
In his piece, Morgan expressed, “Frankly, I’ve seen grittier and more determined displays from the Kardashians on a red carpet trying to steal paparazzi attention from each other,” regarding the nature of Megan Rapinoe’s comments and agenda.
While speaking about Rapinoe’s comments on moves to ban transgender women from competing in women’s sports. Morgan wrote, “But she can’t bring herself to admit it because it would destroy her hard-fought reputation as the world’s No. 1 woke, virtue-signalling athlete.”
This Morgan-Rapinoe feud isn’t anything new, the duo has budded heads in the past as well. During the 2019 Women's World Cup in France, Pier Morgan trolled the USWNT captain before their semi-final clash against England. Morgan said, "Ms Rapinoe's self-confidence knows no bounds. Our Lionesses are set to challenge that enormous ego."

Despite these comments, the USA registered a 2-1 victory over the Lionesses and reached the final. Then in the summit clash, Rapinoe netted a goal, leading to a 2-0 victory over the Netherlands to win her second World Cup trophy.
