Suryakumar Yadav, India's T20I captain, recently revealed that he watches his most famous T20 2024 World Cup catch every day and feels grateful for the moment. The India batter made a fantastic catch in the final of the T20 World Cup, which proved to be the game's turning point. Suryakumar displayed his class fielding skill by making a sensational catch at long off to eliminate David Miller, securing India's seven-run victory. He further expressed his delight in contributing to the team and the nation.
“I watch it every hour; whenever I get an opportunity to use the phone, I watch it a lot of times, and I'm very grateful. I mean, I could get to do something special for my country that day. If I had been busy seeing that, the ball would have already crossed the boundary. There were a lot of moments in the game, and this was one of them, but reaching that moment after that 30-ball 30,” said Suryakumar Yadav during the conference at the India Today Conclave.
Suryakumar Yadav's catch is compared to legendary Kapil Dev's 83 World Cup catch
While speaking about his catch, Suryakumar Yadav also mentioned how three bowlers Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya played a crucial role in winning the T20 World Cup final. “Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep, and Hardik, all the three guys getting us back into the game. And then this moment came of 6-ball 16, and being in that moment and taking that catch. I think you can say that there was a lot of hard work behind it by all the 3 bowlers, and then I got an opportunity otherwise, the game would have been over long back,” he added.
Suryakumar's famous T20 catch has also been compared with India captain Kapil Dev's catch in the 1983 World Cup final, which created history and helped the team to win its first World Cup title. Following India's victory in the T20 World Cup, Suryakumar was given the T20I captaincy and has been on a tear under his leadership, winning all series since 2024.
