Date: October 28, 2022

Time: 9:30 AM IST

Venue: Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne

Preview:

Ireland clinched historic 5-run victory over mighty England courtesy of DLS method in a rain-affected match. However, Ireland performed significantly well in the match with bat and ball. Their skipper Andrew Balbirnie batted brilliantly along with wicketkeeper batter Lorcan Tucker. Even, Irish bowlers did well in the second innings as prolific batters like Jos Buttler, Alex Hales and Ben Stokes could not even reach double digits. Meanwhile, Afghanistan lost their first game against England and settled with one point against New Zealand as the match was called off due to massive rain in Melbourne on October 26.

Pitch Report:

MCG hosted iconic India vs Pakistan match which saw one hell of competitive cricket. The surface will be a balanced pitch as it will have elements for bowlers and batters, as well. Players will apply themselves well to make a mark in the game.

Team Analysis:

Afghanistan:

Mohammad Nabi-led side has failed to live up to the expectations in their first game against England. Apart from Ibrahim Zadran (32 off 32) and Usman Ghani (30 off 30), none of the batters performed well in their opener. Six of their batters failed to reach double digits including three ducks in the game.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Hazratullah Zazai, Ibrahim Zadran, Mohammed Nabi will have to up their game in their upcoming fixture. Meanwhile, Afghan bowlers did fairly well against England but needs to bring their A-game in the ICC tournament to leave an impression. Afghanistan will have a daunting task ahead of them as Ireland will be riding high on confidence.

Probable playing XI:

Hazratullah Zazai, Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Ibrahim Zadran, Usman Ghani, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi (c), Azmatullah Omarzai, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fareed Ahmad Malik, Fazalhaq Farooqi

Ireland:

Andrew Balbirnie-led from the front against England as Irish boys shocked mighty England on October 26 at MCG. Balbirnie scored magnificent 62 off 47 deliveries, while Lorcan Tucker provided decent support with his valuable 34 off 27 balls.

Paul Stirling and Curtis Campher needs to bat up to the reputation in upcoming fixtures. 22-year-old left arm-pacer Joshua Little was instrumental with the bowl as he picked two wickets in the game. He dismissed the likes of Jos Buttler and Alex Hales in their last fixture. Irish boys would be desperate to continue their top-form in the ICC tournament and seal one more win in the competition.

Probable playing XI:

Paul Stirling, Andrew Balbirnie (c), Lorcan Tucker (wk), Harry Tector, Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Gareth Delany, Mark Adair, Fionn Hand, Barry McCarthy, Joshua Little
