New Zealand crushed Sri Lanka with the help of a stunning century from Glenn Phillips and a four-wicket haul from Trent Boult. The Kiwis won the toss and opted to bat first and initially, were struggling at 15/3 after 4 overs but a decent 84-run partnership between Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips for the 4th wicket helped them to resurrect their innings and post a total of 167/7 on board.

Glenn Phillips became the second batter after Rilee Rossouw to smash a century in T20 World Cup 2022. Sri Lanka's poor fielding also hurt them as they ended up dropping a fairly straightforward catch of Phillips when he was at just 12 runs.

Sri Lanka got bundled out for just 102 runs as their batters failed to apply themselves except their skipper Dasun Shanaka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa while New Zealand premium pacer Trent Boult ended up with bowling figures of 4/13 in his quota of 4 overs while other bowlers like Santner and Ish Sodhi ended up picking 2 wickets respectively. Tim Southee bowled well with his bowling partner Boult as he also ended with terrific figures of 4-1-12-1. Lockie Ferguson also picked the key wicket of Rajapaksa who was timing the ball very well.
