In a matter of 19 seconds in the second round, Charles Oliveira turned the fight upside down to beat Michael Chandler to become the new UFC lightweight champion, the belt which was vacated by former Russian Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. It was a thrilling match at the Toyota Centre in Houston when Chandler was having the match in his hands but then the Brazilian cornered the American to win the UFC 262 bout by TKO in the second round.

After the fight, Chandler was all smiling and appreciated his fellow fighter, “This one, it’s not the lowest of lows, because Charles Oliveira is world-class”, said the American fighter. However, he also mentioned that this is not the end and only a lesson for him, that he will learn from and move on.

The amazing comeback from the Brazilian gathered appreciation from other wrestlers too including the likes of his next contenders Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier. Oliveira will next face the winner of Conor Vs Dustin at the UFC 264 on July 10.

Khabib Nurmagomedov is a great champion but now it’s Charles Oliveira’s era

However, with all the praises and word-battling threats Olivers received post his win, the Brazilian now seems to probably tempt Khabib for a comeback to challenge him for a fight.

When asked about the same, Charles showed respect for the unbeaten champion stating “Everybody talks about Khabib. He is a great champion, 29 fights never lost. But now it’s a new era, it’s Charles Oliveira.

With all the trash talks and challenges thrown to the Russian on numerous occasions, the chances of ‘The Eagle’ coming out of retirement by breaking the promise to his mother is however highly unlikely.
