The second Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2022-23 is underway at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The two teams have put on a perfect fight so far in the game. While India bundled the Aussies for 263 in their first innings, Pat Cummins and Co. also did a terrific job by bowling India out for 262. Nathan Lyon led the charge for the visitors as the veteran off-spinner bagged five wickets.

Lyon started wreaking havoc straightaway on Day 2 as he got four wickets in quick succession. India were in all sorts of trouble but local lad Virat Kohli stitched a crucial partnership with Ravindra Jadeja. However, India once again lost three quick wickets. While Kohli fell to Matthew Kuhnemann, Jadeja and KS Bharat got out to Todd Murphy and Lyon respectively.

India looked in tatters as they had lost seven wickets with the deficit still over 100 runs. It was on Axar Patel and R Ashwin to bail the team out of trouble and the two all-rounders did not disappoint at all. The pair added 114 runs for the eighth wicket with Axar scoring a half-century and India eventually ending their first innings on 262.

This was Patel’s second consecutive half-century this series and the second such instance of India’s lower order chipping in. Everyone reserved high praise for these two batters. Meanwhile, Nathan Lyon refused to call Axar and Ashwin lower-order batters. When the Australia spinner was asked about the pair at the post-day press conference, Lyon said that these two batters could easily fit in top 6 of any other Test team in the world.

"They are not lower-order (batters). Let's get that clear. Axar and Ash could easily bat in the top-six in a few teams in Test cricket around the world in my eyes. They (India) have a very long top order, let's just say that," said Lyon.
