One of the greatest fast bowlers of all time, Wasim Akram talked about India having a balanced squad for the upcoming Asia Cup later this month, during a sponsor’s event for the tournament. The 57-year-old also went on to state that the continental cricketing spectacle will not be easy for India or any of the other five nations to achieve victory in.

Asia Cup 2023 is set to begin on August 30, Wednesday, when Pakistan take on Nepal in the Group A clash at the Multan International Cricket Stadium. Then, on September 2, at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy, Pakistan will play against India to round off their group stage commitments in the tournament.

During the sponsor’s event for the Asia Cup 2023, Wasim Akram shared his thoughts about India’s recent selection approach in limited-overs cricket. He was quoted as saying, as per Indian Express, “I think they are trying different things, new players especially in the T20 format, also a new captain. They have a balanced squad. But it will not be easy for India or any team.”

While refusing to pick a favourite for the Asia Cup 2023, the former ODI World Cup winner did speak about how any team can win in the competition on their day. He said, “Last time we had predicted an India versus Pakistan final but Sri Lanka won the competition. All three teams are dangerous, anyone can win on their day. There are other teams competing too. Last time Sri Lanka won the title, India even failed to make it to the final.”

Wasim Akram also alluded to how the bowlers are accustomed to bowling four overs every game, which is not going to be the case in the Asia Cup 2023 because it is going to be played in the ODI format. “Be it India or Pakistan or Sri Lanka, we will find out if the bowlers are able to deliver 10 overs or not, nowadays they are all used to bowling four overs (per game),” said the 57-year-old.
