Many current and former Indian sport personalities, including the likes of Virat Kohli, Virender Sehwag, Abhinav Bindra, and Sania Mirza, among others, have expressed their deep sadness at the tragic train accident in Odisha on June 2. At least 240 people have been killed, while 900 are severely injured in the tragedy as per the officials. 

According to reports, the crash had happened at the Balasore district in Odisha on Friday evening, involving three trains, namely Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, and a goods train. It has been considered as one of the deadliest train accidents in the history of Independent India.

There are currently 200 ambulances, 50 buses, and 45 mobile health units working around the clock at the crash site as per the officials in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Around 1200 personnel are also there, trying to pull out survivors and the dead from mangled steel of trains at the site of the tragedy.

Virat Kohli, who is currently in England, preparing for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final, tweeted that he was saddened to hear about the Odisha train accident. Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag also sent his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the train crash.  The first-ever individual Olympic gold medallist from India, Abhinav Bindra was also left heartbroken at the news from Odisha. He also extended his support and prayers to everyone involved in the train accident. 

Sania Mirza, former multi-time Grand Slam champion, sent her thoughts and prayers to the families who are adversely affected by the train tragedy in Balasore, Odisha.  The former cricket World Cup winner, Harbhajan Singh also extended prayers and made an appeal to the Ministry of Railways and Government of Odisha to rescue the passengers in Balasore at the earliest.
